June 4th, 2016.
It was my 10th visit to the First Fridays event. Ever since the September edition back in 2014, I haven’t missed a single First Fridays yet. Hooray!
I still remember my first visit. I didn’t know where to start and I was overwhelmed by the amount of food trucks and people. Today, I get there and I just map out my visit. It’s become a routine. As soon as we arrive on the site, we take one turn around the area to see which trucks are there and where they are stationed. Then, we head over to Le Cheese Truck and then decide our next truck as we are eating our mac & cheese / grilled cheese.
The June edition pretty much happened that way too.
The event normally starts at 4pm and when we arrived there at 4:30pm, we were surprised to find that there was a lineup to get in – which probably meant that the trucks weren’t stationed yet and they couldn’t have pedestrians walking about while they were going around parking.
Once we were in, we obviously went for our first stop. I skipped the Cheese Truck this month and went straight for the Bacon Wrapped Oreos – something they didn’t have in May!
So while I munched on the delicious bacon wrapped oreos, the other girls went to get some grub. Here are some of what they got:
Burrito Bowl at Queen B
Gnocchi Poutine at Pinokio (new food truck this year)
While some of us were eating, we decided to take a break and just sat by the new (s)eating area. At some point, a professional photographer (didn’t quite catch the company he was working for) approached us and mumbled a few words. None of us understood exactly what he said because he spoke fast – nor did we know which company he worked for, but he wanted to take a group picture of us.
*snap*snap*thanks, waves at us, and then leaves*
We all looked at each other and said “We have no idea where that picture is going to land”
Psst, I know the answer. The following day, Les Premiers Vendredis (The Facebook Page that manages and promotes First Fridays) posted a picture on their wall.
And you can guess what it was. Yep, we were featured on their Facebook Page 😀
Woo! Our happy foodie faces were glowing that day! 😀 So on point!
Later in the day, I tried something new. I got 2 mini beef sliders from Air de Boeuf. They were delicious and quite filling for two little burgers.
SO cute though!
We ended the day with a plate of Mr. Puffs to share and a lemonade from the lemonade stand! They’re called puffs for a reason.. They’re not dense like Timbits, but instead they’re soft and pouffy. They’re light and so easy to finish a whole plate alone by just popping them in your mouth – one after the other!
And some of us splurged on a delicious waffle from Gaufrabec!
She’s great – I love her! 🙂
It was a great day with the girls and we really enjoyed the weather too! It was bright and sunny. The next edition though … (July 2016) got real hot! It fell on Canada Day and was quite crowded. But stay tuned for that one!
We had a great time and headed back to our workplace later in the night to find our good friend Sarah – who couldn’t come with us that day.
Till next time, friends.
I apologize for the big gap between my last post and this one. I’ve been enjoying my summer a bit and been backed up with a lot of foodie moments – we even had a Buzzfeed Tasty night where we made awesome pizza bombs!
I promise frequent blog posts when Fall comes. 🙂
